Research Institute of Basic and Clinical Uro-Nephrology

Established in 2006, the Research Institute of Basic and Clinical Uro-Nephrology is the only research institute in Saratov State Medical University.

The Institute’s mission is to bring together the expertise of practicing specialists in urology, nephrology, and surgery, medical faculty, and researchers, in order to provide an interdisciplinary approach in the study of urology. Such cooperation gives an opportunity to identify the most promising areas of research and to develop ways to implement them.

One of the Institute’s major achievements has been to use an innovative approach in bringing the study of urology to meet the highest international standards. The newly established Knowledge Sharing Center with the Laboratory of Cell Technologies serves as proof of the growing dynamism and diversification of the Research Institute. The Center’s mission is to bring together the medical faculty’s and medical researchers’ expertise in education, research, and innovation in biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, and cell technologies.

The Research Institute of Basic and Clinical Uro-Nephrology includes five divisions: Reconstructive Uro-Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation, Pediatric Uro-Andrology, Pathomorphology, X-Ray Diagnostics, and the Knowledge Sharing Center with the Laboratory of Cell Technologies.

The Institute’s leading areas of research are marker diagnostics, staging and prognosis of genitourinarydiseases (including oncological). Since 2012, the Institute has been conducting research, commissioned by the Ministry of Health, into the use of molecular markers and gold nanoparticles for theranostics in experimental and clinical oncology.
